You will be transferred to a retention agent who will ask you to verify your account holder/manager status by providing your name and four-digit security pin (this is on the first page of your bill).
Once you’re in the account, the representative will attempt to persuade you to stay with Spectrum like HBO max. Then, they’ll ask why you’re canceling your Spectrum internet account.

All you have to do is call Spectrum’s customer service and ask if they have any specific discounts available to you.
Not often, but now and then, they will gladly oblige and give you a pretty good deal right there and then. If not, don’t be concerned. There are still steps you can take that will always work.
2. Make a call to the Retention Department.
Spectrum has a dedicated team whose sole purpose is to keep Spectrum customers loyal.
These guys are pretty high up in the company so that they can give you much more than a typical customer service representative. All you have to do to reach them is dial (833) 267-6094.
After you pass, you will be presented with an automated menu from which to choose. The Retention Department is the option you’re looking for in this menu.
Just remember to have your Spectrum account number handy when you call. Then, if they don’t have any discounts to offer you, you can easily cancel your subscription on this line.
3. Provide a Reasonable Excuse for Wanting to Cancel
As we mentioned in the previous step, these customer service representatives in the Retention Department will say anything to keep you with the company.
It would help if you arrived prepared for this. These guys are fantastic at their work and can easily win if you haven’t already.
You’ll also need a compelling reason to leave their employ. You could, for example, state that you are changing jobs. Prepare your response and approach the conversation with confidence.
4. Discontinue Spectrum Voice
When speaking with Spectrum customer service, make an effort to remain assertive while avoiding being rude.
In general, being rude to customer service representatives lowers your chances of a favorable outcome.
After you’ve given your reasonable reason for leaving the service, request confirmation of your charter Spectrum cancellation, and that’s the end of it. Your service should now be terminated.
At this point, you have every right to re-register as a new customer and negotiate a lower price for the service. Then, repeat this process every year, saving a significant amount on your internet subscription.
RETURN OF SPECTRUM EQUIPMENT
When you cancel your Spectrum internet service, you must return any equipment you were renting or included in your plan.
Modems and routers are the most common types of equipment that must be returned. However, when installed, you are not required to return any remotes or cables provided with your service.
Spectrum will give you a 30-day grace period to return your equipment without penalty. If you’re quarantining due to COVID (they don’t want sick people in their stores), this window is extended to 60 days.
If you do not return your equipment, you will be charged a fee ranging from $60 to $150 for each piece of missing equipment.

WHERE SHOULD YOU SEND YOUR SPECTRUM EQUIPMENT?
You can return your Spectrum equipment to a Spectrum store, UPS, or FedEx. But, of course, there’s no way around going to the post office.
Spectrum prefers that you return your equipment to a UPS location. Spectrum’s partnership with UPS allows customers to drop off their equipment for free and have UPS return it to Spectrum mobile.
Make sure that you are going to an official UPS location. Third-party UPS stores and franchises do not use the UPS system but do use UPS branding and logos.
You can use the UPS store locator to ensure you are going to the correct location. Keep the UPS receipt in case there are any delivery issues.
Spectrum is okay with you returning your equipment via FedEx if there are no UPS stores nearby.
You cannot leave your equipment in a FedEx box. Instead, you must visit a FedEx location. The procedure for returning your equipment is identical to that of UPS.
Returning your equipment to a Spectrum store is another option. Spectrum stores accept returns, but it is not heavily promoted because the purpose of the stores is to get more people to sign up for Spectrum rather than to assist with customer support and cancellation.
A Spectrum technician can pick up your equipment at your home only if you are disabled. This option requires you to schedule a pickup appointment online or by phone.
